i love hiking. i've said it time and time again, if there's an opportunity to go on a hike, i'm taking it. while in taiwan, there was no hike more reputable than the zhuilu trail in taroko. this required a two hour train from taipei, a 45 minute car ride to the gorge, three days to process permits (yes you need permits for this hike) and 5 hours of endurance to make it through the whole thing.
although i LOVE hiking - i am DEATHLY AFRAID of heights!!! as if the extreme altitude wasn't enough, it rained the entire time, making this the most difficult, and not to mention dangerous, hikes i've ever endured. that being said, it was also the most wonderful, unforgettable experience. if you're ever in taiwan and you have the stomach for it, i cannot recommend the zhuilu trail enough.
